How a 62-Year-Old Woman Taught Me the Secret to True Rest

Every once in a while, you meet someone who changes the way you see the world—Miss Big Shine was one of those people.

I met a woman unlike anyone I had ever encountered. Let’s call her Miss Big Shine. She carried an aura of wisdom wrapped in childlike wonder. She was 62, from a small town in Karnataka, and had spent her life working hard and earning her independence. Now, she was taking time out just for herself—to be, to explore, to play.

Embracing Nature Like a Child

Miss Big Shine saw the world differently. She greeted the morning sun with a deep bow, whispered her secrets to the trees, and giggled as the wind played with her hair. At night, she spoke softly to the moon, as if sharing stories only the two of them understood. Watching her, I realized that she wasn’t alone—she was held, supported, and deeply connected to the world around her in a way most of us have forgotten.

She would collect fallen leaves, twigs, and little things from nature like all of it belonged to her, fashioning them into tiny works of art in the evenings after tea. She danced with the wind, sang with the birds, and whispered to the sun and moon. Watching her felt like watching a child at play, completely immersed in the moment, unburdened by the weight of adulthood.

A Reminder to Keep the Inner Child Alive

Her presence made me think about childhood—the freedom, the creativity, the pure joy of existing without expectation. She made me re-realize that age is just a word. The child within us never truly fades unless we let it.

Miss Big Shine reminded me of how important it is to keep that child alive—

to find joy in simple things,

to move freely,

to sing without reason,

and to create just for the love of creating.

She didn’t need validation or approval. She just needed the open sky, the whispering trees, and the freedom to be.

The Art of True Rest

Meeting Miss Big Shine was a gift. She showed me that rest isn’t just about sleep or stillness—it’s about rekindling joy, rediscovering curiosity, and allowing ourselves to simply exist, fully and freely.

May we all learn to rest like Miss Big Shine.

At Farm Aavjo, we believe in this kind of rest—immersing in nature, playing with farm animals, and reconnecting with yourself. Whether you choose to sip chai by the fields, take a mindful walk, or watch the sunset over the Aravalli, our farm stay offers a space to breathe, to be, and to simply exist.
